Treasure Artist Statement - CATHERINE KING
I'm sure I qualify as a hoarder of photographs, email, and New Yorker cartoons. Thankfully, we're a digital society, so my hoarding is not readily visible or life-threatening.
Perusing flea markets and thrift stores to photograph objects that seem well-loved and reluctantly tossed has become a passion. These photographs then become my own treasures to be digitally hoarded.
How does one distinguish between "hoarding" and "collecting"? When is it time to relinquish beloved heirlooms or valued keepsakes? When does "treasure" become "trash" and vice versa?
